Hair and Face of the Day

This is a great protective style,  I call it "Lazy Saturday Bun".  This is a banana clip bun with the ends twisted and tucked under.

My face is and ELF pallatte creation. The pinks and browns are a perfect match.  I finished the look with KISS eyelashes.

3 Strand Twists

These are by far my favorite twists. Once you get the concept down then its easy peasy!

Seperate the hair into three sections like you are going to braid and then wrap the 3 strands around themselves.  Its that simple.  And What a wonderful Twist out!

Check out my tutorial!

My Version of Nikkiemae2003’s Turban

In my constant search of finding new protective styles for my natural hair, I came across this turban style that YouTuber, Nikkimae2003, is rocking in one of her tutorial videos.  I Like the style but really didn’t know how I would look wearing a turban so I decided to follow her instructions and give it a whirl.  I don’t think it was too bad but I don’t know if I’ll feel totally comfortable wearing the turban out in public.  You be the judge.

Let me know what you think and if you've tried the turban style before!

Confessions of an Almost Product Junkie

I started my healthy hair journey in May, 2010, mainly because I’d burnt the back row of my hair out with a straightening comb. After that, I started researching how to grow my hair back really fast, when I stumbled upon a world that I didn’t even know existed; a world with black women, who were growing their hair long and beautiful. I wanted my hair to be long and beautiful, so every product the women who I was looking at were using, I had to have it. Whether the product was good for my hair or not, I had to try it. I found myself getting caught up in the products that I had to have for my hair that I started to lose focus on what I really wanted, which was healthy hair. I was starting to use way too much product on my hair. When I detangled my hair after I washed, the comb was full of hair. I couldn’t understand why my hair was betraying me. I stepped back, reevaluated my regimen and figured that I was doing too much to my hair. I went back to the basics, clean hair and scalp, conditioned and moisturized hair that is sealed with oil, and low manipulation and protective styles. That’s enough!!! I’ve been back to the basics for about three weeks now and my hair is already doing much better. I have less hair in my comb when I detangle and my hair is starting to flourish. I’m glad that I came to my senses before I’d gone broke buying every product that I learned of. I will not be a product junkie.

Losing your hair can be quit an embarrassment, especially, if the hair loss is in the front of your head or at the nape of your neck. What the Heck is Pre-pooing

Pre-Poo!?!? If you are like me, you could possibly feel overwhelmed with all the new healthy hair words and acronyms.  Pre-Poo is a strange word that I’d never heard before in my life but if it’s going to make my hair grow, then I had to learn everything I could about it.   So what the heck is pre-poo?

Pre-Poo is a short term for pre-shampoo and it’s a conditioning treatment that’s applied to the hair and scalp before you shampoo your hair.  Pre-pooing provides a barrier to protect your hair from the harsh elements in shampoo and leave your relaxed or natural hair stronger and softer.

Pre-pooing should be practiced at least once a week  before shampooing.   You can buy a pre-shampoo hair treatment or simply mix your own by raiding your kitchen cabinet for a few key ingredients.  You will need a combination of oil and conditioner or moisturizer.

Simply mix and apply to your hair and scalp to leave for 30 minutes with or without heat.  Rinse, shampoo, condition and style.

There’s an unlimited combination of items that can be used as a pre-poo.  I’ll list both oils and conditioners or moisturizers that can be mixed for a pre-poo.

Oils  -  Avocado, Coconut, Castor, Olive
Moisturizers or Conditioners – Honey, Molasses, Shae Butter, Conditioner

Have fun mixing and let me know how it turns out or if you have a pre-poo recipe that you would like to share with me.

Happy Hair Growth

My Hair Needs Protein??

One thing about being on this healthy hair journey is that I’ve really learned to listen to my hair.  I noticed that although my hair was clearly moisturized to the touch, it was still appearing dull and lifeless.  I was moisturizing and sealing in the morning and at night so my hair could not be as thirsty as it was portraying.  I couldn’t quite understand what was going on.   At the first sign that my hair is acting a little differently, I quickly jump to access and combat the problem to get my hair back to its healthy state.
There are a couple of reasons my hair may be looking dry and dull and they are lack of moisture and lack of protein.  I don’t think it’s a lack of moisture so it has to be a lack of protein.

Start Your Own Hair Braiding Business

Hair braiding is one, of the few arts, that has survived the test of time for African Americans.  Black women were braiding hair before they were taken from Africa and sold into slavery.  Those beautiful, black women have passed their braiding techniques down to their children throughout the generations.  If you were fortunate enough to be blessed with the fingers for braiding then you can make money with your art.  This isn’t a get rich quick scheme but some practical ideas that could possibly bring you enough money to supplement your day job’s income.
